Saguaro National Park, Arizona | Gilbert Ray Campground, Tucson Mountain Park, Tucson, Arizona:

Spent two nights at Gilbert Ray Campground in Tucson Mountain County Park, which is adjacent to Saguaro National Park.

We took the 5.2 mile off-road Bajada Loop Drive through the dense cactus forest early one morning. On the drive we stopped for a quick one mile hike on the Valley View Overlook Trail, which ends in an expansive view of Avra Valley and Picacho Peak.

Our friend Rachael served a stint at the nearby Biosphere2 and recommended touring the facility while in the area. We could almost imagine living under a dome on another planet with an ecosystem designed sustain life.
Tucson is known for having great Sonoran-style Mexican food, and we indulged several times during our short stay. My favorite was the Molcajete… basically fajitas in a molten lava hot salsa purée. Fantástico!
